Doctor Anna RobertsAge: 40
Race: Human
Occupation: Medical doctor and pathologist of the supernatural
Allegiance: DPA and Guardians
Appearance: Raven black hair falls in thick waves and serves to highlight the fairness of her complexion. A trail of freckles runs across her cheekbones and over her nose whatever time of year it is. Probably her most noticeable trait is her incredibly green eyes.
Military training has gifted Anna with a physically fit and slim figure although as she’s hitting middle age and after her pregnancy, it’s slowly becoming a feminine hourglass figure. At work she’s always found in pencil skirts, shirts and heels.
Personality: Sympathetic, caring and dedicated are probably the best ways to describe the doctor. She has an incredible work ethic which seems to come from a limitless supply of energy in fact it’s more a case of her distinct fear of failure which keeps her going on. She always tries to do what’s right and suffers great guilt and mental torture if she can’t and these can plague her for months to years.
History: Anna’s beginnings are at the ancestral home of the Roberts family, Whittal House, a modest Tudor mansion in the Norfolk countryside. This is where she was born to Lord Andrew Roberts the 5th Baron of Whittal and his wife the Baroness Jane Roberts. Her father worked as a banker in the city while Jane held a PhD in chemistry from Cambridge University. Anna’s younger brother Andrew was born four years after her.
She doesn’t remember much of her early years in Norfolk. At the age of five she was sent to an all girls boarding school in Surrey and would study there until senior school. For as long as she can remember she was an outcast in some sort of fashion. A painfully shy child, at school she preferred to stay in the classroom and read during break times and didn’t care much for games.
Senior school was one of the hardest times of Anna’s life. At the age of twelve instead of staying on at the school she was comfortable with, her grandmother had insisted that to raise the family’s profile, Anna must go to a London school. It was hell. The smart, very academic girl was suddenly amongst the spoilt daughters of musicians, actors and politicians. She was teased relentlessly for her preference to reading rather than doing hair and makeup and so found her sanctuary in the library. She excelled in everything she did and committed herself solidly to her studies.
Tragedy struck the family when Anna was fourteen. She was brought home from school to learn her brother had terminal brain cancer. Although the siblings were schooled separately, they were close during the holidays and she was of course devastated. Diagnosis to death was a matter of weeks during which Anna never left his bedside, she constantly cared for him until the end. At this stage in her life she was debating which career path to take and this encouraged her to take a medical path.
Anna took her A levels a year early and surpassed the requirements to secure a place at Oxford Medical School. Finally the seventeen year old found a place to belong and thrived in this environment. Unfortunately tragedy wasn’t done with Anna just yet. Just after her second year exams when she was ready to go home for the summer she received another massive blow, both her parents had been killed in a car accident. Although she’d never been particularly close to either parent, this left her well and truly alone with only a mad, socialite of a grandmother. She took the time out to grieve before returning to her studies when she became even more isolated and took comfort, as she had her entire life, in the acquisition of knowledge.
At only 23 she graduated top of her class with an additional bachelor’s degree in physics. She began her work with the NHS at St. Thomas’s hospital. With the family’s estate and fortune behind her, Anna didn’t need to work but she had never enjoyed being part of the upper class and had never used her title of ‘Lady.’
At 25 she was recruited into the DPA and this is where she has stayed ever since. Starting out as a field medic, she’s risen through the ranks and has held the position of Chief Medical Officer of the DPA field office as well as known as the foremost expert on the physiology of the incredible.
It was while stationed at the field office that Anna gave birth to her daughter Grace under extraordinary circumstances. After a brief but intense affair with an American soldier named Sam Jansson who stationed there she fell pregnant. During the pregnancy Jansson was tracking a group of Nahash and was working on bringing them down but they found out and infected him with an incurable pathogen. His decline was slow and agonising, Anna worked tirelessly to cure him but nothing conventional was working. So she went for the crazy, last resort, risky solution. By combining vampire and zombie blood, she hoped to create a serum which possessed the ability to regenerate the dying tissue and purge his body of the pathogen. At seven months pregnant, an accident happened which would change everything. An unrefined, untested concoction had a violate reaction, the result was only a cracked Petri dish, as Anna cleaned up the mess a sharp piece cut through her gloves and sliced the tip of her finger. The momentary infection of the tiniest amount was enough to throw her body into panic. The baby was delivered twenty minutes after Anna’s collapse by emergency caesarean but the damage had already been done. The umbilical cord and pulled in the serum and the child had absorbed it. The full effects of the misadventure wouldn’t be known for months.
Grace was growing, too quickly, her intelligence was off the charts and as she grew an athletic figure developed. Now, at the age of seven, her physical development has returned to a normal rate but she appears to be in her mid twenties.
Today she works between the DPA and Guardians, the DPA doesn’t know of her other association just yet but she lives with the fear that she might be found out. She keeps her job at the DPA hoping to instigate positive change from the inside.
